Welcome to the Lancashire Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Education Settings (LEHWES) E-Learning Series.
LEHWES is a small team of clinical psychologists working from Lancaster University. Commissioned and funded by the Lancashire County Council Public Health Team. We support schools and colleges across Lancashire to better understand and respond to children and young people’s emotional and mental health needs.
Our e-learning series complements this with flexible, bitesize learning to help staff support student wellbeing. It can be used as an introduction to our longer training sessions or as a valuable standalone resource for those who are not able to attend live sessions.
Using this course
You can work through each module at your own pace and return to the materials whenever helpful.
Each module is designed to take around 30 minutes in total, with sections lasting approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
As you work through the course, you will be invited to watch short videos, complete reflective activities and take part in brief knowledge checks. You will also have the opportunity to share ideas with colleagues through a staff reflection forum.
You do not need to apply every idea in the same way. Instead, we encourage you to focus on the approaches that feel most useful and relevant to your own setting and practice.
Completion, badges and certificate
To complete each module, please work through all required activities and complete the Check Your Understanding activities. A badge will be awarded on successful completion of each module. When you have completed all modules in the series, you will receive a certificate.
Before you begin
As you work through the course, you may find it helpful to keep the following in mind:
- · please avoid including identifiable information about students or colleagues in written reflections or forum posts
- · consider how this learning can be applied in your own educational setting, and use any strategies in line with your own organisational policies and procedures
- · you can revisit the materials at any time
It is also important to note that the e-learning series discusses topics which may resonate personally as well as professionally. We want you to engage at a level that is comfortable for you. If you are affected by the content of the course, then we encourage you to seek support in a way that works for you. Ideas could be:
- · leaving the room or the session and/or taking breaks
- · talking to someone or doing something that helps you to feel safe
- · letting someone you trust know you are completing the course so they can check in with you after the session
- · contacting an organisation that offers support - the Compassionate Schools Hub has a directory that lists useful organisations that can offer a range of support (https://cs-hub.co.uk/)
