This short tutorial will introduce a range of legal materials including cases, statutes and statutory instruments and help you understand the range of tools and resources that can be used to retrieve them.
The tutorial will take about 20 minutes and we recommend that you complete it before arrival at University.
The Library provides introductory workshops to legal resources such as LexisLibrary and Westlaw early on the Law course. Completing this tutorial will help you understand the basics prior to those workshops, and will ensure that you hit the ground running in your legal research!

A Law degree involves a great deal independent study, which may be different to what you've experienced at school or college.
The Law department outlines the independent learning required for each module at the start of the module. Independent study time can include reading through and understanding the lecture notes, further reading of published materials, completion of coursework, preparation for exams and tests, etc.
Electronic Resource Lists that link you to the required reading for your modules can be found in each of your course Moodle sites. Resource Lists may also give details of whether readings are essential or recommended, or if they need to be completed in relation to a particular week or lecture.
